Celebrity workout Barry’s Bootcamp is opening in Australia.
The popular US program — a favourite of Victoria’s Secret models and the Kardashians — has confirmed it will launch Down Under this year, in what is being billed as the first “luxury” fitness offering in the country.
The famously hardcore classes claim to burn up to 1000 calories in 55 minutes and spike the metabolism for around 48 hours afterwards.
Barry’s will open studios in Surry Hills, Martin Place, and a third Sydney-based location in September, with Melbourne to roll out in early 2019, News Corp Australia can reveal.

The launch of Barry’s Australia will pose a huge rival to popular group fitness chains F45 and CrossFit, two social media-driven exercise trends, according to industry experts.
Reality star Kim Kardashian has previously spoken about taking Barry’s Bootcamp classes to keep her famous assets in shape.
“It’s a treadmill workout but it’s really insane, like, heavy, heavy working-out non-stop, for an hour, half weights, half treadmill,” Kardashian told this writer in 2010.
Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima, David and Victoria Beckham, buff Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles are among Barry’s huge celebrity following.
Such is Barry’s influence that it spawned the term “Barry’s Body”, referring to the super fit, lean and muscle-defined physique sported by bootcamp fanatics.
Inside Barry’s Australia
Celebrity trainer Barry Jay founded Barry’s Bootcamp in West Hollywood two decades ago.
The soon-to-be-launched Aussie studios will offer the LA-based chain’s signature 55-minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes, which include notoriously tough “butt and legs”, “chest, back and abs”, “full body” and simply “abs” sessions.
Popular classes have been known to book out “within minutes” of being available online, according to reports.
The Barry’s Australia studios will be custom-built around the brand’s trademark “red room”, designed to maximise physical performance and with huge Instagram appeal, and blast club-style music and red-tinged mood lighting.
Classes are made up of strength and conditioning training using weights and resistance bands for 25 minutes, and 25 minutes of interval-based cardio on treadmills (with a five-minute cool down routine).
In a very Hollywood move, Barry’s trainers are described as “part fitness expert and part entertainer”.
Barry’s Australia head of operations Heston Russell said Barry’s Bootcamp would be the first premium fitness offering in Australia.
“The Barry’s brand and workout have become an iconic part of the fitness industry,” Russell said.
“The Barry’s model is based on delivering an unrivalled fitness product paired with a concierge-style client experience.
“From the time the client arrives in studio to when they’re ready to leave, we’ve accounted for every step of their visit to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.”
The Sydney and Melbourne studios will also include LA-style Fuel Bars, where smoothies are named “Matcha Made in Heaven” and “Green Latifah”.
A line of Barry’s-branded performance sportswear, including T-shirts, crop tops, shorts and leggings, will also be stocked at the Australian studios, as worn by Becks.
Barry’s Bootcamp has 42 locations worldwide in 18 cities including Los Angeles, New York, London, Milan, Dubai and Toronto, with 65,000 members globally.
Fitness gurus Heston Russell and Blake Bridges, and Quadrant PE-backed Fitness and Lifestyle Group, are behind the Australian launch.
