KFC has closed over 600 restaurants thanks to a chicken shortage.
The fast food restaurant has run out of the meat, thanks to an issue with delivery.
A new delivery company has caused problems with the supply chain, leaving stores without meat.
The store has said: “We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!
“We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.
“We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix – we’re really sorry about that.”
KFC is currently listing all the stores that are open on their website.
However, only 279 restaurants are open as of today.
KFC added on Twitter: “The chicken crossed the road, just not to our restaurants…
“We’ve brought a new delivery partner on board, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!
“The Colonel is working on it.”
Horrified fans of the fast food chain took to Twitter to express their shock.
One wrote: “Oh it’s you, unbelievable! This is a threat to the countries national security. Currently awaiting news of riots up and down the country… #wheresthechickengone.”
Another said: “Don’t think @kfc should count their chickens that they’ll get over this shortage too easy as it seems they’re in a bit of a flap… certainly the new distributors have lost that feather in their cap…. just hope they keep us a breast of the situation…” [sic]
McDonald’s has recently swapped one fan favourite in the Happy Meal.
The Happy Meal menu has been revised to remove cheeseburgers in a bid to cut calories and reduce sugar, saturated fat and salt. Chocolate milk will also be removed, and swapped for bottled water.
